Just a look around Monster Cafe...

When I was around 6 years old my father brought me to hang out with his friend and sons.  They had a pool!  I was in heaven!  The sons took me up to see their room and it was something straight out of Forest Ackerman´s mansion.  Model kits everywhere even the Prehistoric Scenes!  The one that caught my eye was the Tarpit.  Just knowing that prehistoric rhinocerous was going to drown in the tar and the vulture so callously awaiting that so he could pick off pieces of him were frightening to my imagination.  To this day I still do not have that kit.  I kept looking at that thing that I didn´t even notice the other sons not around me anymore.  When I finally turned around after a few minutes all three of them were wearing Monster masks and let out a GROWL!  I screamed in real terror having no idea those were masks.  I tried jumping out their second floor window but the doors would not open...I managed to get out the bedroom door and all the way down to hug Daddy´s leg.  I think that was the genesis for Monster Cafe Saltillo....

My first Monster model kit didn´t come until 1999 when I found two Revell kits of Frankenstein and Dracula in Toys R Us.  Wow.  Just like the models I had remembered back in my early youth.  I bought them both.  They were around $2 each.  I put Frankenstein together first.  Too much fun.  Dad always encouraged me.  Even at 26 to start new hobbies.  As you can see, the collection has grown a little...

So these pics are of the display case in Monster Cafe Saltillo.  Now other Universal Monster collectors have me beat.  HANDS DOWN!  I will never have the items that they have in their collections.  But it is nice to see some kid´s eyes like my own when I was their age gaze upon it.  Maybe more monster kids will be made someday.  Who knows?

Pheww!  Second blogpost down.  How do you guys do it so easily?
