Wednesday wishlist... TRILOGIES!

Yes it will be a weird week as this one will be about trilogies!  Or movies that SHOULD have been trilogies!  Cannot help it.  I am a trinity sort of guy.  I like trilogies because they are complete in my eyes.  So my top 10 lists for movies that SHOULD have been trilogies!!!  I love trilogies...Godfather, the Mummy movies etc.
1. Airplane!  I love the first two movies although the Zucker bros had nothing to do with the sequel but man was it good.  This deserved a third part!  It is number one on my list for a reason!  I STILL laugh all these years later.

2. Fantastic Four- Yeah I am a Marvelite.  Everyone hated this series but again I buck the trend.  I liked it.  Would I have prefered a normal Galactus and not a cloud?  Sure I would have.  Not sure why the producers let it get on without it especially in this day and age of digital effects.

3. Fletch- If you are not a Fletch fan then leave this blog!  I then can run off the only two people that actually read it.  No really I love Fletch!  Chase´s comic timing with the sarcastic insults just warmed my cockles...

4. F/X- These movies were awesome!  Great special effects and good acting.  Good stuff.  Should have had a third part!  It gave Bryan Brown something to do other than play second fiddle to Tom Cruise´s Cocktail movie which he stole the show by the way!

5. Grease- Good musical.  The first one of course and also the second one.  Songs you could really sing along to!  They play them on Mexican Saltillo radio all the time.  Go figure!

6. Grumpy Old Men- These movies are like comfort food to me. I could see myself in my retirement years living like these guys.  Chasing after old gals, fishing, and drinking beer.  The two stars decided to do the crapfest that was Out to Sea instead of a third one.  Bad move!  It could´ve been great!  Now both stars are dead.

7. Yes should have been a trilogy.  Scott should have come back for the third one.  The second one sure was BLAH!

8. Hot shots- Laughed like heck at this movie and it´s sequel!  Great times.  Favorite is when Sheen and son pass each other on the boat.

9. Conan- Reis over at DorkHorde would appreciate this one.  It needed to be a trilogy.  Arnold WAS Conan.  Not that new namby pampy Momoa kid.  Arnold had it.  He was chiseled out of granite.

10. Speed- Yes speed.  The first movie is a classic and while many people hated the second one because of a lack of Keanu.  Well, I think it rocks.

Bonus- 48 hours.  Sheer comic genius.  Should have been a trilogy too.

Are there any I missed?

J boy´s Superteam idea...Government sponsored.

I had something else to blog about but when I saw the superteam idea I had to go with it.  Now my idea is nothing new...Heck it was done in the comics!  But I do not have many  Marvel Universe figures to do much.  So.....In my universe SHIELD kind of runs things.  Mutants are just coming around and SHIELD has been secretly using them.  First is the PSYOPS team which are basically Sith and Jedi with their mind force powers.  The second is a traditional mutant team.  XFactor.

Mystique is the government appointed leader, with Multiple Man is the army if need be with Strong Guy as the muscle and Random as long distance shooter.

They are standing around at headquarters awaiting orders.

Shooting the breeze.

Multiple Man make a joke that Strong Guy does NOT care for....

As you notice I do not have Havok in the lineup.  It is because I do not have the figure.  And Hasbro has not made Lorna Dane nor Wolfsbane.  Hope they will one day.
Uh oh....Looks like an order has come down from a SHIELD operative.  It is time for XFactor to take it´s leave.  YES I use the Stormtroopers in my universe as SHIELD field operatives.  Didn´t I mention that?

League assignment: Back to school!

Summer’s over, it’s time to go back to school! (Interpret it as you will.)

Hmm...The new league assignment is back to school.  At first I thought of this...
If I did this correctly you can go ahead and click on it and listen to the song.
Yeah this is what I first thought of.  But then I decided to ask wifey what she thought of when I say the words Back to School.  She thought of excitement and progress.  For me....Not so much the progress but the excitement!  New Trapper Keepers, did the friends look differently etc.  My most RECENT back to school occured in the year 1999.  I was attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York city and for term one I was a little gordo or fat.

I got to live in the greatest city in the world NEW YORK for around 3 years.  It was great!  The comic shops were awesome, Toys R Us at 14th street and FAO Schwartz!!!  I went there almost daily!
This is the lobby of AADA.  Truly the hallowed halls of acting.

Forbidden planet comic book shop.  Ah, what a dream to be able to go there all the time.

I am mixing some pics of when I was there in 93 for a summer session and when I went fulltime in 98-2000 years.  This is me in 93 doing that trick thing with my upper lip.  What a dork!

Well that summer of 1999 I dedicated myself to losing weight by doing the Atkins diet.
I ate these nonstop for over a month and I would order Mcdonalds hamburgers and throw away the buns!  I got really sick but I shed 24 pounds.  I looked so hot when I returned to school.  People were shocked.  I shocked myself too.
Acting school is great.  SO different than normal high school.  Classes consist of Acting, singing, voice, and movement.  You have to audition to get in and go for the first year.  Costs $10,000 per year!!!  To get in for the second year you have to be voted on by your professors as to wheather you were good enough to come back.

.  That was ALWAYS stressful.  Waiting to get my envelope in the mail if I would return or not.  They only invite back a third of the first year students to the competition is tough.  Only four of my class didn´t get back in.
I even got to perform Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror picture show in singing class....It earned me double A´s!
So I even got to graduate!  There is me hanging by the New York Post...HAHA...Get it?  Even got to meet Professor Javier...I mean Patrick Stewart came to speak to our graduating class!  I was thrilled because as a comic geek I knew he was already cast in XMen!  I wanted to ask him but never did.
So now there is a permenent pic of me in the school...So future generations can ask themselves....WHO the hell is this idiot?

I was the first done so I couldn´t link anyone else from the league.  So here they are now!

Memory Monday! Arcade edition!

No, not this Arcade...  Just memories of the Arcade.  I am a product of the seventies and eighties. So here I will list some of my favorite arcade games from that era.

The original Chiller!  Whooo!!!!  My father´s best friend from high school Ed used to fix these darn things for a living.  I so vividly remember playing this in his garage when he had us over a few times.  The image is burned in my skull.
This is a cheat.  I never played the Creature from the black lagoon pinball game.  But I SURE do want one for Monster Cafe Saltillo!  Think of the pesos I could make!!!
Donkey Kong Jr. got more play from me at 711 then probably any coin operated game ever.  I loved it.  I knew it was a second cousin to Donkey Kong but to me it was the favorite.
Just look at the graphics on Donkey Kong Jr.!  So great.  To me it sure beat hopping over the barrels that Donkey Kong gave ya.  Mario was the villain in this one as he was in Donkey Kong.  Now he is the hero.  Go figure...
Ah Ms. Pacman.  The hotter version of Pacman being that she´s a chick...No really I prefered her over to her male counterpart because she could move faster than him!  At least it seemed that way to me.  I was really good at this game.  Probably the only one in my history.
The original Star Wars game!  One could be a pilot in your own XWing fighter trying to blow up the Death Star.  Another game I sucked at...
I know it is not the game in the JAWS movie but man would this rock or not?  Never played it but it sure does hit the nostalgia button doesn´t it?

The now closed Gino´s pizza in Atlanta is where I first discovered Space invaders and also began my lifelong obsession with all things Ravioli...

Ah the bowling alley is where I discovered Gauntlet.  With my good friends Chris Davis and heck I forget who else us four played this all the time.  Even a bowler played with us.  This grizzled old bowler had wise words for us youngins.  None of which I can remember but I DO remember the guy looking like he had been to hell and back.  I always wanted to be the Elf.
This was also at the bowling alley.  The Playboy pinball.  I never played it.  I would´ve felt too dirty too...At the time...;)

Haunted House.  My father´s friend also had this.  Wow...Such memories.  I am SO sure this was also a spark then led me to create the Monster Cafe.
Centipede was the other game in the 711 along with Donkey Kong Jr that I wore out.  I was however never any good at it.

I always said that if I ever got rich I would buy all these games but now I do not feel that way.  It would be sweet to have them in one´s own private game room but this is probably better....
A MAME machine!  Apparantly I have been told that it replicates over 1,000 games or something like that.  So one could have all the games he wanted on one machine.  However I doubt Haunted House and more obscure games wouldn´t be on it.

Score Sunday Return of the Joker...and toys!

Yup.  Finally got around to owning this.  I have Batman Beyond seasons 2 and 3 on DVD...Have yet to find season one yet but hey....This was a good movie.  So creepy with little Joker.  I will not spoil it for those that have not seen it yet.
Oops....Yeah I´ll spoil it.  It has been out for years anyways!  Joker imprints his DNA on Tim Drake early in his young life.  SO creepy seeing Robin be the Joker´s kid....

Joker even finds out that Bruce Wayne is Batman!  Lots of neat stuff in this DVD.
The creators even said in the DVD commentary that he was drawing Hannibal Lector and put a Joker face on him.  The slicked back hair etc.  Whoa!

Also picked up Blastaar!  WHOA!  I had to struggle between buying him or the variant with the orange hands but I chose this one instead.  Why?  Well Blastaar isn´t ALWAYS shooting his hands off....What if I wanted him to pilot a ship?  He couldn´t do it if he were about to blow it up all the time now could I?  I have no fond memories of Blastaar.  Wasn´t reading early FF or the Avengers much.  All I know is that he was a king in the Phantom Zone...Oops, the Negative Zone.  Freudian slip there.  Do I see an invasion by him in my playtime?  You betcha!

I also got the Sentinel of the spaceways The Silver Surfer!  I couldn´t believe my luck that a series one Marvel Universe was just sitting on the shelf with the current ones.  I didn´t have him yet so I snagged him right up!  So I only have one Sentinel of the spaceways....RIGHT Antwan? ;)
I never read the Surfer in his own book.  I did catch him later when I had Essential Silver Surfer one and read it but I have since sold it.  Big mistake I know... My fondest memory of him is in the Infinity Gauntlet where he races light years to catch Thanos offguard and grab the Infinity Gauntlet but he MISSED!  But What If he didn´t?  Oh, I got that covered too...
Marvel even did a What If issue where the Surfer gets that Gauntlet in that attempt.  He becomes a nice God and turns the Earth into a paradise free from suffering etc.  But Dr. Strange and crew were still not happy with THAT outcome and try to wrest the gauntlet from Surfer´s grasp too.  Now I can re enact that scene...Oops....Darn.  I do not have the MU Thanos nor his Infinity Gauntlet.  Oh well.  Here is too searching for it someday.

Score Saturday Professor Javier!

Yeah....My wifey calls Professor Xavier Professor Javier....Oh yeah!  I gotta tell ya....I am a Marvel Universe freak.  Not just the new 3 inch figures that are compatible with GI Joe, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones etc.  I have explained before on this blog that I got into them with Amazing Spiderman 214 in 1980.  Stayed with them until 1998 when comics just got too darn expensive.  The last arc I read was Bastian vs. the Xmen.  Great story with Nimrod being human etc.  BUT I moved to Mexico in 2006 to start a new life after my father passed away.  It was not easy leaving my culture, language, and customs of the U.S.  I thought I was over toys and would not be collecting ever again. Only WWF toys of course. So I missed MU Hasbro when they first came out in 2009.  Besides I was so busy making the cafe I had no time for anything else.  They started to show up here in Saltillo in 2011.  They were $18 dollars apiece!!!  Outrageous!  I could never collect them with those prices.  Then in late 2011 I was just looking around in the toy stores when the price suddenly dropped.   79 pesos which is like $6 dollars.  I weighed back and forth what I should do.  I bought 4 Multiple Man, 1 Wolverine, and 1 Colossus.  After playing with them a bit I was hooked.  Then I started buying Star Wars again after not having a Star Wars toy since 1982!  WOW!  The articulation of today!  The style of the figures....WISH I had these when Star Wars was first out!  I just really hate Mexican prices on these things.  HEB is the worst criminals in Saltillo when it comes to pricing toys.  Soriana comes in second.  The BEST so far is Aurora.  It equals out to around $11 per figure.  So with all that boring expository stuff now out of the way....It is Score Saturday time!
I needed something XMen like to post them against.  Taking a cue from Tony at Action figs and things I think I found the something I wanted.  This is the labratory at Monster Cafe.  I got Wolverine up top fixing something.

  • I put Colossus doing something.  Not quite sure what but holding something.
Xavier is looking on.  I am imagining them in the Danger room.

Professor X and Iceman look on.
So this is my meager little Xmen group.  I am missing Gambit, Cyclops, Storm, Jean, Beast, Angel, Archangel you name it.  But it is a good start.
Fondest Professor X memory has to be.....

Professor X was infected by the Brood.  The marvel universe version of Aliens....he DIED!  He was cloned in another body by the Shiar in a later issue.  This is coming from memory mind you so I might have it wrong.
